Director General Military Operations regards NATO attack as ‘pre-planned’

Islamabad, December 8, Director General Military Operations, Major General Ashfaq Nadeem has said that the NATO’s attack on Pakistani check post in Mohmand Agency was pre-planned.

While giving briefing to the Senate’s Standing Committee on Defence, which convened under the chairmanship of Javed Ashraf Qazi, the DG MO said that NATO had provided wrong information to the Border Coordination Centre regarding
the location of the operation. He said, “The bunkers were specifically targeted and destroyed”.

Supporting his point, Major General Nadeem maintained that terrorists hide inside ditches and cracks and not on mountain peaks which is where the check posts were located. The DG MO was of the view that there was no confusion on
the fact that the attack was a deliberate attempt. The only confusion was if the said attack was conducted by ISAF or the US Special Forces.

This is not the first time when American led NATO forces have demonstrated aggression against Pakistan Army – an important ally in the war against terrorism. An earlier similar attack on Pakistani post had left two soldiers dead.

Pakistan has expressed its grief and aggression on the deliberate attack which is nothing else than testing nerves of the country which has paid a huge and undue price for becoming an ally to this faceless war.

In response to this aggression, Pakistan has blocked the NATO supply line and has asked the US to vacate Shamsi Airbase it was using to launch drone attacks in Pakistan. The commoners in the country are of the view that all relations
with the US must be reviewed and Pakistan should come out of all written and verbal contracts with its so called ally.

The NATO/US attacks on Pakistani check posts have prompted country wide protests in Pakistan and people are demanding an equal retaliation against the ISAF forces. They are of the view that mere apology from the US for killing
24 soldiers should not be deemed enough.

The meeting of the Senate’s standing committee on Defence, after listening to the briefing, has demanded details of all the written and verbal agreements with America.
