Republican Presidential candidate, Newt Gingrich stressed on Wednesday that ‘Extremists’ can get hold of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons.
He articulated that these weapons can be within the reach of same extremists, who almost took over the Islamabad’s military forces.
While expressing his concern over this, he told CNN that, “My guess is that they have well over 100 nuclear weapons and that the Pakistani military is so penetrated by extremist elements you have no idea if one morning, they are going to lose three or four
of them. I mean just have them stolen.”
Gingrich has elevated to the top of presidential candidates list, who are trying to contend against the President Barak Obama.
He also denied the claim of Pakistani officials, who proclaimed that they were unaware of Osama Bin Laden’s presence in Pakistan before US forces killed him.
“The Pakistani military was capable of protecting bin Laden for six years. Now do I think Osama bin Laden was sitting a mile from the national military university and nobody noticed him in their intelligence service? It’s inconceivable,” Gingrich told AFP.
He told that these nuclear weapons were secured by the President Pervez Musharraf after the September 11, 2011 attacks on US, as he allied with US ‘war on terror’.
But in the last decade, Pakistan has experienced hundreds of terrorist attacks, which has increased the probability of extremists trying to gain access to nuclear weapons and at the same time Pakistan has lost trust of US as they lied about Bin Laden.
The recent US opinion polls suggest that Gingrich has strengthened his lead over his opponents and is the strongest contender of President Obama.
He has lead over his rivals in both Iowa group meeting proposing contest and nationwide.
