Driver’s Review: Acura RDX SH-AWD – Part-1
Thursday, December 8th, 2011 6:52:21 by Usman KhalidHonda Motor Company’s luxury automobile division Acura announced its 2012 model of RDX, the crossover sports utility vehicle and is called RDX SH-AWD.
Although the vehicle falls in the crossovers category—the younger sibling of the full sized SUVs—its sheer size is larger than others of its counterparts in the same the vehicle bracket. The company proclaimed the new RDX as “Right ‘right sized’”. However,
that might be an overstatement from the marketing and sales management in Japan.
The new addition to the RDX line might cover more volume on the outside but under the hood and inside the cabin, there are things amiss, probably compromised due to the price battle.
The RDX starts at $32,895 and goes up to $37,995 with the options. It is available in five majestic colours but flagship is maroon.
Under the hood, lies a four-cylinder, five-speed, 2.3 litre engine that is able to churn out 240 horsepower to all wheels at 6000 rpm and 260 horsepower at 4500 rpm.
The four-wheel drive is a mandatory for the SUV family but this one provides a smoother drive as compared to high-priced BMWs and Audis. The adaptive cruise control is only available as an option and it takes the price to the third.
The power produced by this crossover is much better than the counterparts from Germany and the US. The engine actually tries to reach the over efficiency mark set by Acura and take it to a smoother and faster drive with the help of five-speed automatic flapped
paddle gear box. The good news about the gear box is that it takes micro seconds to respond, which is quite quick.
Acura’s forte has always been cabin decorations and technologies. The brand has indeed been synonymous to high-tech gadgets inside seating space.
