The much needed "Khamoshi Ka Boycott"

I have been noticing this strange behavioural change around my immediate surroundings for quite some time, which actually convinced me to dedicate my written piece completely for the cause.

The behavourial change I wish to discuss is none other than going “Numb” over what you actually disapprove of. This awkward self imposed veil is now considered the newest notion in vogue, the ONLY way to survive in the cut throat competition of today’s world
or more appropriately, the next coolest behavior, which will gain you acceptance amongst masses (read professional ladder).

Although, the realisation had always been there that our nation is gradually going through the process but I never expected that numbness had in fact trickled down to the “Youth” of my country. The idea was never new to me because it was always discussed
in the passing amongst friends and family but to actually witness it up close at my workplace was a whole new experience for me.

Being very observant, since the beginning, I noticed that my fellow colleagues (who comfortably pass for the youth of Pakistan) were reluctant in voicing out their resentments against anything that was troubling them. They do not believe in communicating
their objections to the higher management, but instead they are fine with sulking over their grievances to the point that they can take no more.

True, we have been taught to exercise tolerance and patience but the version to which I was recently exposed, was actually nauseating. My work mates have turned into a bunch of indifferent souls who do not care that they are the premium victims of exploitation.
Well, the best part is, that they are happy that way too as they will just bob their head in agreement to whatever unjust is thrown their way, without even daring to speak up, not realising that once"Communication" has been replaced by Silence, you are only
destined to be doomed.

It doesnot end there, as almost all of them have also turned into selfish beings, who are just worried about making money at any cost. To them the idea of Human Rights is an obsolete one. It is like they do not see the bigger picture at all or more aptly
they do not care to see the bigger picture. What is worse, is the fact that their vision has gone myopic. This behaviour is not only affecting their own personality but is also shaking Pakistan’s foundations, which are already weak.

I feel bad and sad at the same time, because this is a blow at my country’s integrity. This means that the future bearers of the Land of Pure, have accepted the fact that they will always be exploited no matter what and they should be fine with the exploitation
at whatever level it may be. Hope is no more found in their dictionary because they no longer believe that they are the biggest (dormant) agents of change, which a dwindling nation like ours, aspires for.

Gone are the days, when youth was considered the most powerful, opinionated and future investment of a nation, because now the tables have turned. Youth of our nation have lost faith in themselves, the courage to speak for their rights, the will to bring
the change and most certainly the voice to express their resentment. Sad… isn’t it?

It is like you have locked up the grey matter of your brain; which is responsible for sensory perception such as seeing, hearing, memory, emotions, and speech, for good.

For a person, like myself, who feels immensely for his/ her country, this will never be acceptable at any cost, because this is sheer hypocrisy. You are just masking your inner with a façade and that too for just a few bucks. There is no denying the fact
that the market situation is aggressive and you may not have job for Allah knows how long but who is asking you to be disrespectful, it is just about communicating instead of being tongue tied.

I believe breaking the silence is an essential to the success of a nation, because otherwise those who do not acknowledge their own worth can never succeed in the long run.

It is still not too late to flush the recently adopted behavioural change out of our systems because “Numbness” is not just confined to workplace, but it has crept to all levels alike. Be it the school, college, university, or be it the country’s politics,
it is everywhere. Otherwise, if this continues the same way, those times are very near when our country will be no more than a sorry picture of brewing “YES-MEN”, who will be completely devoid of thought processes of their own.
