In another setback to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Malik Khurram Ali, the member of the Punjab Assembly, tendered his resignation from the legislative forum as well as the party, joining hands with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Malik Khurram Ali, who contested the elections from PP-18 (Pindi Gheb, Attock), has claimed that the PPP took a u-turn on its own swear to facilitate the masses with ‘Roti (Bread), Kapra, (clothes) and Makan (House).
He submitted his resignation and formally announced his affiliation with the Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaf. By quitting the party, he flayed severe criticism on Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.
He observed, “With a heavy heart, I have to say that PPP is no more the party, once led by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto. This is reflected through its anti-people policies, which have forced the common man to commit suicide or sell his limbs to
feed his family due to the over 150 per cent hike in goods rates and utility tariff”.
It is vital to mention here that the PM assured the PPP MPAs that their issues would be resolved at the earliest. The PM even committed to release Rs 70 million for each member of the provincial assembly, however, his magic failed to impress the legislators.
According to some media reports, more MPAs will separate from the PPP in the coming days to join Imran Khan, somewhat a new upcoming political power.
Many of the legislators explained that even a commoner and illiterate person could see how massively his consuming power had been squeezed in the last few years. At the same time, the accounts of the rulers had multiplied.
Malik Khurram Ali was of the view that the government is not bothered to take steps to control the alarming drift of inflation in the country.
While explaining the reasons that motivated him to take the bold step at this moment, the MPA stated that he took the decision in the best interests of the masses. He opined that the present leadership failed to deliver the results to which it was given
the mandate.
He underlined that the funds announced by the Prime Minister was too little and too late, as his constituency is very backward and undeveloped. Regardless of that the PPP-leadership is working to convince its members, it will not become easy to control the
promptly declining reputation.
