Islamabad: Experts here in a workshop at Marriott hotel suggested that civil military imbalance was a threat to the nation. They emphasized over the fact that there should be broad consensus among the
people on the nature of state civilian supremacy.
The important points discussed in the workshop over national security came up with following suggestions: Natural resources should be utilized efficiently; and military should be brought under civilian
control. They said that the military intervenes when there is power imbalance, personal motivations or chances of intervention. Military and politics are not compartmentalized affairs.
The speakers at the meeting were of the view that military did not have the sole manifestation of the national power. To them, national power had several elements; military was just one of them; Politics
and governance were not all about managerial skills.
According to research Pakistan has fastest growing nuclear arsenals, if continued at current pace it will exceed Britain some times in near future. At Kahuta two nuclear reactors are working, third
is under construction and foundation is laid for fourth one.
Pakistan’s stance on FMCT: because of Indo-US nuclear deal India is capable of making twenty nukes per years that is why Pak won’t sign FMCT. Pakistan has many issues like sectarianism, ungovernablity,
Shia killings, ethnic conflicts, terrorism, energy, resources etc. we need to deal with that. India does not seem at verge of war with us. Now there is paradigm shift in military regime, how they see their selves and think about their role in world
Now military sees that US want to steal their nuclear weapon, want to deny their strategic depth in Afghanistan, it is an ally to India and is getting closer with passage of time and US is enemy of
Islam. So, Pakistan is producing more nukes because more nuclear weapons will be harder to snatch. And as US will leave Afghanistan, Pakistan will use its Taliban assets then US will retaliate so if Pakistan has more nukes there are less chances of retaliation.
More nukes for geo-political importance of Pakistan and nukes have become something sacred like part of religious worshiping.
Nuclear weapons are more like the political weapons then deterrence weapons. Violence has been normalized in our society. Security has become something sentimentally important, socio-politically engineered
about certain lines. Those analysts who work in accordance to realist paradigm are labeled as pro-military and those who are anti-nuclear are labeled as anti-Pakistani. Nukes didn’t serve the purpose for Pakistan. Liberal deliberants have failed to provide
alternate paths to radicalisms.
