Employees want bonuses and pay raises, suggests a recent survey
Saturday, December 10th, 2011 6:13:44 by Usman KhalidTrue desires of the employees in various organizations all around the North American continent were unveiled in a recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Glassdoor.
The research was conducted online with different opinions from 2500 people on Glassdoor’s website, a social network where employees of different companies post experiences of their work places.
The perk chosen by almost three quarters of the sample space (72%) was a bonus in the coming year for the extra effort they have put in their work.
It is clear from the statistics that the employees want recognition from their employers. They want their bosses to hear them, recognize their needs and watch out for them. Still Rusty Rueff, a Glassdoor career and workplace expert, was mesmerized by the
turnout in opting for bonuses.
“I think it’s very interesting because cash is always king, but the number of employees that prefer financial perks over everything else is extremely high,” said Rueff. “We are still not past the impacts of the Great Recession, and people are still concerned
about compensation. They want to make sure they are putting money in the bank, especially during the holidays.”
The second most opted perk was an increase in salary. The reason for such an obvious choice to secure a second position is that the US is still living through the 2008 financial crisis and an increment in the salary still sounds a far cry. Almost 62 percent
of the subjects opted for this perk as a first or second most desirable incentive.
Third came the desire of a paid vacation that slowly is becoming a novel idea in the American economy.
“I would have never predicted that the paid time off would show up so high on the list,” Rueff said. “Because of the dependency on high-productivity rates during tough economic times, people are still doing the work of two or three people, and they need
a breather.”
The main objective behind this survey was to reveal the true mindset of employees in front of the employers so that they can think more about motivating their subordinates with monetary assistance rather than a holiday party.
