The women and peace Programme of UN Women Pakistan held a two day lessons Learned Review Meeting on 8 and 9 of December at the Marriott Hotel Islamabad. The Meeting was attended by a wide number of government and government sector
professionals and media personnel.
The objectives of the two day meeting were: To provide a platform for partners to share their learning, successes and results in the context of the Women and peace programme as well as gaps and challenges. To formulate/ draft strategies
to address challenges faced (what can be done differently); To develop lessons learnt and good practices based on WPP partners experiences; and To share lessons and good practices with key stakeholders.
The two-day meeting provided the partners and stakeholders of UN Women an opportunity to share and learn from each other’s experiences and provided space for dialogue on how to move forward with the implementation of their projects
given the innumerable challenges they face.
As the meeting lingered on and entered in the second day, a knowledge sharing session was designed to which key stakeholders from the government, donor community and selected civil society organizations were invited for dissemination
of gained knowledge to help further the agenda of women and peace in Pakistan.
State of women’s rights in Pakistan has been dismal, and despite of the radical actions taken by successive governments for educating the masses with regard to women’s rights, their rights are continuously being abused.
The workshops like that organized by the UN Women will definitely contribute towards the efforts for women emancipation in Pakistan. However, this is also a fact that unless lessons learned are revisited and guidelines are taken
from them and implemented, any betterment regarding women’s conditions in the country can not be achieved.
For this cause, besides the humanitarian organizations and the NGOs, clergies should also come forward and extend their help in mitigating the vows of one of the most marginalized class of the society in Pakistan. Only doing so
can guarantee a prosperous future for the country in the days to come.
