Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has asked PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif to support his son, Syed Ali Musa Gilani, in the upcoming by-elections, in NA-148, (Multan-I), which is falling vacant after the resignation of the former foreign minister, Shah Mehmood
Qureshi.
The request was made soon after Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP)’s Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari formally awarded the party ticket of the constituency (NA-148) to the PM’s son.
It is vital to mention here that the premier’s son is already running his election campaign along with other family members and party leaders, after getting a green signal from PPP’s Co-Chairman President Asif Ali Zardari.
According to a press statement issued by the PM House, Prime Minister’s sons Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani (MPA) and Syed Ali Musa Gilani called on PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, extending their best wishes for the early recovery of President Asif Ali Zardari.
The PPP Chairman directed the party leaders as well as the workers to extend full support to Syed Ali Musa Gilani in the by-elections.
On the other hand, reports said that Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani contacted the top leaders of the PML-N and, seeking their support for his son in the by-polls.
The media reports quoting sources in the PML-N informed that any reply in this regard would be given to the prime minister after making a consultation with other party’s leadership.
The PML-N has not decided thus far, whether it would support the PPP candidate, or nominates its own contender for the seat, report added.
The report further stated that Vice Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and previous MNA from this constituency, Shah Mehmood Qureshi has already informed the party’s chairman, Imran Khan, about the new move of the PPP.
“Qureshi has yet to decide whether contest the election himself or to nominate any other person,” the report said adding that he (Qureshi) was still waiting for Imran Khan’s reply. He is also consulting his friends and supporters in this regard, it maintained.
Some circles are also claiming that that PML-N and Qureshi may go for a unanimous candidate in a bid to ouster the premier family from this constituency. “PML-N can still support Qureshi despite he joined PTI,” the report stressed.
It is pertinent to mention here that resignation of Qureshi is yet to be accepted by the Speaker National Assembly and, thereafter, the Election Commission will announce dates of the by-election.
