Society for the protection of the rights of the child launches the documentary “I have a dream” on child domestic labour

The child domestic labor is recognized as worst form of child labor all over the world and declared a form of slavery by the United Nations. Unfortunately, Pakistan is one of those developing countries that have widespread use
of child domestic laborers and seen more than a dozen of children reported murdered by their masters/employers starting from January 2010.

The domestic labor is playing havoc in children’s lives. These children are not only deprived of education, healthy development, the right to health, the right to protection from abuse, exploitation and neglect, the right to live
with their family and the right to play but their future is also completely blighted.

In order to get the child domestic labor declared hazardous in the ECA 1991, there is a dire need to build a consensus among the relevant public and private stakeholders. SPARC believes that such consensus is only possible when
the seriousness and severity of the issue is being realized by the government. For raising awareness and building consensus among stakeholders against the child domestic labor, SPARC felt to shoot a documentary to film the grim realities of the lives of CDLs
to break the myths associated with it.

With reference to the above mentioned issue, SPARC organized the Launch of the documentary on Child Labor in Pakistan titled “I Have a dream”. SPARC anticipates that the documentary by SPARC on child domestic labor will pave the
way for a consensus among stakeholders who will declare it hazardous.

There is no denying the fact that only an increased awareness is the solution to combat and eradicate the menace of child labor from Pakistan. And the documentaries like the one by SPARC can play a vital role in doing so. The important
point here is that besides the efforts made by various non-governmental organizations, governments must also play an active role for eliminating the child labour in our society.

Moreover, in order to motivate the society members, a similar documentary contest can also be started among university students.
