Hygiene issue in food points
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011 3:44:27 by Sharjeel AhmadHygiene and cleanliness is a big issue with all food points that are set for Pakistan’s middle class downwards. Meals that are served in such type of eateries baldy lack in quality and purity. No proper washing of dishes, uncovered and contaminated drinkable
water, sub-standard meats, vegetables and grains, use of low-grade cooking oil, imperfect cookery and reuse of stale foods are the gruesome problems which pose potential threats to the lives and health of those who are forced to live on bazaar menus.
If you, unfortunately, happen to visit the kitchen of any food point, I swear you will give up eating forever. So dirty and unhygienic it is that you will start vomiting and your stomach is likely to go out of order just with the smell that arises from the
cooking places.
Why we see every fifth individual suffering from Hepatitis, Dhyaria or allergy? Why our hospitals are packed with patients every time? Why do we have short life expectancy? All is the result of unbalanced, unclean and adulterated foods we eat on routine
basis; either for fun or with compulsion.
Deplorable is the fact that there is no worthy system to fix this problem. The government food inspectors, who are supposed to oversee the allocated food points and ensure hygiene diets over there, receive huge bribes and rations to make scapegoat the hoteliers
who prepare and sell bad food items. Apart from food inspectors, police authorities also fill their pockets and bellies to overlook this offense.
Our print and broadcast media are also passive on this issue. You will never watch or read any report about impure food. It is due to the fact that the media organisations rely on the advertisement revenues of the food makers to meet their expenses. This
is called political economy in technical terms.
It is too unfair, unethical and unlawful to spare this problem. It is a sheer injustice with the humanity. Our administration, from top to bottom, must be vigilant to counter this predicament. From this forum of NewsPakistan, I appeal to the government to
save our lives and those of the coming generations by ensuring the availability of hygienic and healthful foods in markets. For God sake, pay heads on it. If you do not, you can never expect a healthy and problem-free nation. May Allah give you insight to
do this.
