Vidya Balan says ‘The Dirty Picture’ is a landmark for her

Bollywood Buzz, Vidya Balan, is pretty happy with the success of her film ‘The Dirty Picture’, as she insisted ‘The Dirty Picture’ is a landmark for her in many ways.

As per the facts and figures ‘The Dirty Picture’, which was released worldwide on December 2, 2011, racked up an amount of nearly 50 crore and as a result to which it has broken a long-held belief among
majority of the people who always believed that films with strong female characters can’t be successful in a male dominant society like India.

Therefore, Vidya Balan thinks the success of ‘The Dirty Picture’ is a big achievement for her. Though Balan admitted she received a lot of criticism for starring in a sex based film, she said ‘The Dirty
Picture’ was something different and she is happy upon seeing the response.

“I am just very very happy that I have got the kind of films and specially The Dirty Picture, which for me is a huge landmark. Yes I have received critical commercial success earlier also and I am very
thankful for that but this is something different. The Dirty Picture is a landmark in many ways and I think not just for me and that is why I feel very very humbled,” said Vidya Balan.

In the end Balan stressed ‘The Dirty Picture’ was a very humbling, encouraging and gratifying experience for her and she will look forward to star in such movies, if given a chance in future.

“Response has been very encouraging from directors, from actors, from entire fraternity, from media. I am feeling very good. As I have also said earlier that The Dirty Picture had been a very humbling,
encouraging and gratifying experience,” added Vidya.

‘The Dirty Picture’, which is based of late southern sex icon Silk Smitha, was not expected to do much but it has surprised everyone, as it is doing a roaring business in single screen cinema halls across
the country from the very first day.

Let’s see if Indian cinema produces more films like this.
