The residents of Defence Housing Authority (DHA), the posh area of Lahore, are living in fear as a new danger has turned its attention towards the area that was considered to be one of the safest in the capital city of Punjab. This new threat comprises of
a group of unknown strangers who target young boys of around the age of 10-20, holding them hostage at gun-point with the intention of taking them all the way to Waziristan and selling them there.
The modus operandi of this new gang consists of the unknown stranger scanning the area for a young potential target and ensuring that the target has a car which he drives himself. The target sits in the car, all set to leave for his destination, when suddenly
the stranger opens the back door of the car and gets in. Pulling out a gun, the stranger points it straight at the temple of the target, urging him to keep driving. The direction of the new destination is whispered in the ears of the target and a warning is
issued that any hanky-panky would get his brains blown out.
The young target is hardly given any choice and therefore forced to obey whatever command is issued by the armed stranger. Fear of getting shot strips the target of any escape plan, making the situation pretty convenient for the stranger.
Selling the target is not the only intention of this group of unknown strangers. Selecting their targets in an area such as Defence allows them to place demands for a large sum of ransom in exchange for the safe release of the target. Of course, the kidnapper
has no intention of letting the target go and only makes the offer to the family of the target to make some extra money before finalising the deal in Waziristan.
There have already been two incident of kidnapping in the past, while a third victim managed to make a narrow escape through quick thinking.
The residents of Defence have been advised to practice extra caution and keep the doors of their car locked even when they are sitting inside the car to avoid getting caught in such a situation. Parents are encouraged to refrain their children from going
out too much unnecessarily, while the young boys are requested to not create any undue opportunities for this group of kidnappers to exploit.
