The Saw franchise might make a comeback – Reports
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011 2:25:10 by Haris AnsariReports indicate that the Saw franchise would be making a comeback in the years to come although it is not yet confirm when. Saw 3D, reportedly the last film in the sequel, hit theatres in October 2010. However, its box office numbers were quite surprising.
Despite long running series’ final part have a tendency of seeing their final part make enormous amount of cash. However, the performance of Saw 3D was far from pleasing. It made only $22 million in its opening weekend and by the end of its screening, it
was the second worst performer of all the sequels, beating only Saw VI.
With such numbers, it seemed obvious that the Franchise would not return. However, it seems like that Lionsgate, the distributor of Saw sequel, have other plans.
Michael Burns, Lionsgate Vice Chairman, recently made a stop to CNBC to talk about the potential merger between Lionsgate and Summit. When asked about the upcoming projects, the Vice Chairman stated: “I am sure some day, you will see Saw back in the picture”.
Although this statement does not indicate that they are looking for a writer and director for the new film, it does undermine the earlier reports that suggested that Saw 3D was the last of the franchise.
