The Prime Minister of Pakistan Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has reiterated that they cannot compromise on country’s “sovereignty, dignity and national honour” under any circumstances.
While addressing the concluding session of two-day Envoys’ Conference at the Foreign office, the Pakistan Prime Minister said that they could not tolerate the transgression of their territorial frontline and cannot reach an agreement with anyone while compromising
on country’s sovereignty.
“Under no circumstances, could Pakistan accept flagrant transgression of our territorial frontlines. This remains the base line and there can be no compromise on our sovereignty, dignity and national honour,” said Gilani.
Gilani’s statement has come at a time when the US Senate agreed to defer $700 million in aid to Islamabad in retaliation to the two-week long Nato Supply blockade from its territory.
PM said that the foreign policy of Pakistan was based on immutable principles. He further added that Pakistan has been consistent in its efforts to reach out its neighbours and the members of international community to develop the best relations and ensure
peace and security in the South Asian region as well as in the whole world. However he stressed that sovereign equality, mutual respect and mutually beneficial cooperation had been the hallmarks of this approach.
“The Charter of the United Nations, norms of inter-state conduct and international law provide the framework for our endeavours to ensure peace and security – both in our own region and the world,” said Gilani in his live televised address to Pakistan ambassadors
and commissioners in various countries.
“We believe that stability and peace at home and in our region is critical for enabling our people to realise their aspirations for progress and socio and economic development,” he added further.
The envoys’ conference was called in the wake of government’s decision to review its foreign policy after US Forces, Nato and ISAF violated country’s sovereignty by an unprecedented air attack in Mohmand Agency last month which killed 24 Pakistan troops.
Summarising the steps taken by the government so far in the aftermath of blatant Nato attack on Pakistan outposts, Gilani said: “The Nato/Isaf logistic supply lines have been closed. Shamsi Airbase has been vacated. Pakistan did not participate in the Bonn
Conference. A broad-ranging review of our cooperation with US/Nato/Isaf was ordered.”
