Investigation finds Craigslist in poorly administered firearms sale
Thursday, December 15th, 2011 6:19:35 by Usman KhalidCraigslist.org has been found involved in guns sale and worst than that, they have been caught red-handed in selling the guns illegally. Although it is not gun-slinging in anyway, this is against their corporate policy.
The company had mentioned clearly before that they will never sell or promote the sale of guns in anyways possible. However, on the contrary, the website is found culprit in avoiding their own publicly announced rule.
The most shocking of the news is that despite their rules and regulation against guns sales, the ‘commodity’ is found readily available on the site and can easily be found. Another aspect that provoked the attention of law enforcement agencies is that Craigslist’s
back ground check mechanism is poorly maintained at best. Maybe that is because ‘they don’t have a policy for selling guns’.
The mayor of New York, Michael Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly took serious notice of the report prepared by Kroll, a private investigation company. The company responded to various list that had guns listed in them and found 1800 such lists
from various parts of the US in the last 100 days. This is enormous to digest.
Moreover, most of the customers who had purchased from this website could not pass the background check performed by Kroll. This means either the company is deliberately conducting business of the sort or their check-and-balance system is poorly administered.
The Craigslist administration is yet to respond to this astonishing revelation.
eBay, online bidding company, also has a no-guns policy but they administer it closely. Their were no guns or firearms whatsoever found on their website by the private investigators. eBay owns little share in Craigslist.
