The government and the military is keeping a mum over the fresh allegations being levelled by Mansoor Ijaz, the US-based businessman, who created the entire controversy of secret memogate by writing an article in the Financial Times.
Amid exchange of blames between different fractions of the system, Awami National Party’s (ANP) MNA, Bushra Gohar demanded resignation of ISI Director, Ahmed Shuja Pasha, over the recent allegations of Mansoor Ijaz.
Mansoor Ijaz, in his fresh statement appeared in the media, claimed that ISI Director had sought permission from Arab leaders for a military coup in the country.
The speech of Bushra Gohar changed the mood of the house abruptly when she asked the ISI Chief, Lt General Ahmed Shuja Pasha, to resign from his post and face the investigation based on the charges levelled by the US business icon.
It is worth mentioning here that Mansoor Ijaz was the whistleblower behind the secret memogate scandal. He ignited another controversy by targeting ISI Chief in the fresh charges.
A blog posted on The Independent’s website, the UK-based daily newspaper, quoted Mansoor Ijaz saying, “Their [US intelligence] information was that Pasha had travelled to a few Arab countries to talk about what the necessary line of action would be in the
event that they had to remove Zardari from power, and so forth”.
Bushra raised a question in the lower house of the parliament, “When a foreigner (Mansoor Ijaz) levelled allegations against Hussain Haqqani, he (former ambassador) was asked to resign to make investigations transparent, now Ijaz has accused the ISI DG of
seeking support of Arab countries for Zardari’s ouster but he (Pasha) is investigating the ‘memo’ issue, General Pasha should also resign to make the memo investigations impartial”.
For the first time, a parliamentarian representing a major government-ally party demanded the resignation of ISI Director.
Seconding the stance of Bushra Gohar, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, asked the government to seek resignation of ISI chief.
The PML-N senior leader observed, “It was only PML-N during the in-camera session of parliament which demanded his resignation following the May 2 incident”. Conversely, the government did not break silence over the issue.
The changing scenario is depicting a chaotic situation in the upcoming days, which will not be in favour of the country at all.
