LAHORE (December 16): Former law minister Senator Babar Awan on Friday claimed that the people had elected Pakistan Peoples Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari as president, who will complete his five-year tenure as head of state
till September 2013.
PPP central leader Babar Awan avoided answering a question regarding a date for the return of President Zardari from Dubai, where he has undergone treatment.
Talking to newsmen along with PPP leader Raja Riaz in Lahore, the former law minister said that the noose was being tightened around the neck of an elected Parliament.
“We are not afraid. We will neither move an inch beyond the Constitution nor move an inch backward,” he replied to questions about the controversial Memogate issue. He refused to comment on Memogate, saying the matter was subjudice
before the law.
However, he strongly criticized the PML-N leadership for its stance on Memogate.
“The nation is being scattered at a time when it needs unity. The power does not matter, but sovereignty and solemnity of the country comes first,” said Awan.
He said that Nawaz Sharif only likes the Parliaments of his own party’s government.
The former law minister vowed that all the attacks being made on the Parliament would be foiled with the power of the public. Musharraf’s hands were strengthened by those, who signed an agreement and fled the country after tendering
an apology.
He said his party had been criticized more than any other party. “PPP had always rendered sacrifices for the sake of democracy and would do the same even now,” said Awan.
The history shows that Babar Awan and his alikes in the PPP have always been turning offensive and aggressive when their corruption or dishonesty is about to be exposed, supreme court has taken notice of any of their wrongdoing
or they have been caught with their pants down on some issue like memo-gate.
Now, the rhetoric stated by the former law minister seems to be an attempt to divert the attention of the masses from the expected treason charges his leaders can be served with by the Supreme Court.
