Former X-Factor winner Joe McElderry congratulates ‘Little Mix’

X-Factor 2009 winner Joe McElderry has sent his best wishes to the winner of the 2011 series, Little Mix. He claimed that the girl group could be the next big thing in British Music after Spice Girls and has advised them to take
‘the opportunity of a lifetime’ seriously.

Little Mix won the competition this season after defeating Marcus Collins in the final. They became the first group ever to win the X Factor and were one of the most consistent performers in the show. They started slowly but showed
massive improvement in the latter stages of the show to win it this month.

McElderry has insisted that it is up to the girls to take their music to the next level. He claimed that the group has to find the target audience first and it could work wonders for them if they work with passion and devotion.
He admitted that the X-Factor is a huge benchmark for young stars and the real test has started now when they have to choose the right songs for the album.

“It’s up to you all to take it to the next level. There’s no rule book for popstars. Everyone does it differently. X Factor is an amazing platform. Sometimes you have to follow what the record company says, but Simon likes people
who can stand up to him, who say: ‘I don’t want to do this’, or, ‘I like that song’,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.

The Welsh singer added that he has made some mistakes in his singing career and the biggest one is that he did not trust his instinct. He claimed that he always thought about what the people would say about his music and never
thought what he wants to do.

“When I look back I don’t think I did anything wrong. I was always myself throughout the whole X Factor experience. I would have been more gutsy instead of worrying what people would think,” he concluded.

Little Mix will launch their first album next year under Simon Cowell’s label Syco Music and will also take part in the X Factor Tour.
