Mansoor Ijaz rejects affidavit of General James Jones

Mansoor Ijaz, the US-based business tycoon who created the controversy of memogate scandal, has rejected the affidavit of General James Jones, the former US National Security Advisor. Ijaz vehemently rebuffed the statement of James Jones saying that he did
not have any contact with the latter prior to May 9, 2011.

General James Jones submitted his written statement in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, declaring the entire episode of memogate scandal unreliable and untrustworthy. In his view, the memo was manufactured by Mansoor Ijaz, instated of Hussain Haqqani, the
former Pakistani ambassador to the United States.

James also claimed that he had known Mansoor Ijaz since 2006, and was contacted by him a few days before May 09. It is vital to mention here that Mansoor Ijaz had stated that he firstly approached James Jones on May 09 to use him for dispatching the memo
to Admiral Mike Mullen.

However, the US businessman rejected the sworn affidavit saying that he could provide evidences in this regard. He stated that he could proved from his two cell phone records that he did not made any contact with James Jones before the said date.

Ijaz explained that he held a six-minute conversation with Hussain Haqqani, who was in London at that time, before making a contact with Gen. James Jones on his landline number. He further stated that Jones contacted him back via his new mobile phone.

He further said that he put the complete information in the statement submitted in the apex court, saying that he would present complete electronic record to the investigative authorities at a suitable time.

Ijaz confessed the point number 4 of the Jones’s statement presented before the court saying that he did not use the name of Hussain Haqqani in the conversation.

He, however, also clarified that he did not use the name of James Jones during his conversation with the former Pakistani envoy. In his view, Hussain Haqqani acknowledged his contacts in the memogate issue.

Mansoor reiterated that it was Hussain Haqqani who directed him to write a memo and to dispatch to Admiral Mike Mullen.

It is worth highlighting here that Ijaz created  the entire controversy in an Op-ed piece in the ‘Financial Times’ claiming that President Zardari sought the US help in case of military coup after the May 02 incident.
