Google’s future in Mobile computing: Will they survive the future of smartphone competition? – Part 1
Monday, December 19th, 2011 12:55:11 by Usman KhalidGoogle came out with the mobile operating system in September 2008 and since then the company has developed several versions of their flagship OS with interesting names based on confectionaries attached to them however; the best is yet to come.
The approach that Google has adopted to date is reactive. They have been more like a copycat to the innovative ideas of Apple; from a novice’s angle it seems so. Their best and extensively tweaked operating system was the latest one, Ice Cream Sandwich.
Before ICS, all versions had an outlook of a cheap OS skin that is available a dime a dozen on the internet.
With major changes to the kernel and graphics in the Ice Cream Sandwich, the operating system has eclipsed the learning curve that new users were getting used to. Even that is not the issue here. The main issue is, whether the biggest search engine will
be able to take a huge leap in innovation to take the lead ahead of iOS?
There have been many changes in the mobile communication and mobile computing in the last one decade or so. Apple has been on the top podium taking all the credit, and truth be told, it is due to them in many ways.
However, it’s not the changes that the analysts are concerned about. The main reason, these gurus see Android’s future in the dark is that they seem to ignore past examples and do not learn from the lesson.
Apple replaced their newest iPod Mini, that was a huge success in the market since its launch, with iPod Nano, because it was a good idea and even a beautiful one.
No matter what is out there in the market and what is its success rate, if there is something in the basket, get it out and sell it before someone else thinks of it. Apple releases a new version of every product every year despite its success in the market
because they believe in excellence.
