Juno is a 2007 comedy-drama flick directed by Jason Reitman and distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures. Ellen Page is the leading and the title character, Juno.
The movie is written by Diablo Cody and produced by John Malkovich, Lianne Halfon, Mason Novick and Russell Smith. It was released on September 1st, 2007 in limited areas and on December 5th, 2007 worldwide.
The 96 minutes teenage drama centres on Juno, an independent-minded teenager, who faces an unplanned pregnancy and the subsequent events that put pressure of adult life onto her. Other stars includes: Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman,
J.K. Simmons and Olivia Thirlby.
The $7 million budgeted movie received great generally positive reviews and great ratings.
It received a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating from review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes which showed that 94 percent of 203 critics gave it a positive review. Critics gave an average rating of 8.1 out of 10 and the site’s general consensus
stated Juno, “One of the brightest, funniest comedies of the year, Juno’s smart script and direction are matched by assured performances in a coming of age story with a 21st century twist.”
It received an amazing 81 out of 100 score from Metacritic, based on reviews from 38 critics.
Detroit News’ critic Tom Long went praised the movie by saying, “Juno is the best movie of the year. It’s the best screenplay of the year, and it features the best actress of the year working with the best acting ensemble of the
year.”
David Wiegand of the San Francisco Chronicle went on to say, “Juno isn’t a film made in the bell jar of unlikely reality that is, far too often, Hollywood: It’s a film whose attention to real-life detail is so fine, audiences will
be hopelessly and happily lost in its story from the first frame.”
Christopher Orr of the News Republic declared, “Fierce without being cruel, sweet without becoming saccharine, and never short of hilarious, it’s not only the best comedy of the year, but one of the best films, period.”
Juno is a must watch for not only teens but for their parents as well. It not only entertains everyone but also teaches teenagers to how to deal with this type of situation.
