Defying the doctors’ advice to rest further and giving a shock of their life to his political opponents and media experts, President Asif Ali Zardari returned to belie detractors and conspirators for speculating his political fate amidst the controversial
memogate scandal.
Asif Ali Zardari’s arrival prompted almost as much confusion as his exit. His return made the impression of political pundits wrong who had created a swirl that the president would not make a comeback to the country on the excuse of his ill health.
The analysts and writers, who had suspected Zardari’s comeback in their write ups and talk shows, once again tried to entwine the situation. However, they were left to eat dust after the president landed in Karachi.
The Supreme Court is going to resume the memogate issue but Asif Ali Zardari is affirmed to face all the challenges.
Protocol was in place for a landing in Karachi and Islamabad, but finally the president landed in the metropolis city of Sindh, moving straightly to Bilawal House.
Zardari’s special plane PK-01 arrived at the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Masroor Base, in Karachi, in the early morning on Monday. He was received by Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Governor Sindh Ishratul Ebad Khan along with other high officials.
Briefing the media, Shazia Marri, the Sindh Information Minister, stated that Asif Ali Zardari would get bed-rest in accordance with the advice of his physicians. She observed, “The president’s return will shut the mouths of some people”.
Security was enhanced in the provincial metropolis, and large contingents of police, Rangers and the Frontier Constabulary (FC) were promptly deployed on numerous roads of the city, including Shahrah-e-Faisal. Sindh Home Minister, Manzoor Wasan, himself
was reviewing the security situation.
He also commented on President’s return saying, “These pundits on TV channels were predicting the president would never come.”
Some sections of media are claiming that the President would take rest in Karachi for a few days before flying off to Islamabad. “He can hold meetings with party leaders to dispel the impression that he is suffering from serious illness and afraid of recent
developments in the wake of the memo case,” a private TV channel quoting sources reported.
