Great buildings hold more than mere structures, they hold secrets and legacies – Part 1

There have been many monuments built since the rise of architecture. Many had not been constructed with an idea of a monument, most of Greek buildings that exist today were either parliament houses, homes to the rich or stadiums and arenas. However, today
their significance shines out because of their superior structure and the fact they are still alive among us.

Most of the buildings build in Greek empire or even before then, in Mesopotamian era, are among us but in a deteriorated state, However, most of the damage done to them is not by time and mother nature but was inflicted by the human made factors.

For example, the Parthenon that we see today was not like this when it was built, of course but it was a marvel of architecture at the top of a hill in Roman Empire. Venetian crusaders attacked the building when they were at war with Muslims in reclaiming
Jerusalem, the holy land. The cannonball found its way into the building and into the explosives deposits that were stocked for war purposes. The explosion was so catastrophic that it left the structure in shards. After clearing up the damaged bits from the
site, the basic infrastructure, that survived the blast, remains now that we see today.

On the other hand, some buildings and structures are not famous for their stature but the secrets hidden inside them that the general public do not know. Vatican City is one of the examples. The man made sovereign city has a labyrinth of tunnels beneath
it that still remains a riddle for a novice.

The capital of the USA, Washington, DC was an exquisite plan carried out after the independence and every corner, street and road holds and significant meaning to it. Pakistan’s third largest city, Faisalabad also holds one significance to it besides being
the military headquarters of British Empire in India. The main square, infamous for its ‘time tower’ in the middle, stretches its roads to eight different directions, imitating a British Union Jack.
