Originally built in late 1850s, the building was approved for an expansion plan in 1959, which was carried out in a very chaotic
manner. However, the US government successfully managed to hide a secretive nuclear blast-resistant, that was built in the basement. Its purpose was to save the congress members in the event of a nuclear bomb blast in the cold war. The secret was revealed
in 1989 after the decline of Soviet Union.
The building is open for general public for visit of the state-of-the-art architecture that had been hidden for three decades. The hotel denizens can visit the site for $25 a ticket.
The Vatican City, as mentioned above, hold more than meets the eye. Due to a conflict of ideology, the works of many artists have either been altered or kept in secrecy from the public.
There is a secret bathroom from the medieval era that was painted by Rafael in 1516. The walls and ceiling of the ancient rest room adorn the mastery of one of the greatest artists in human history. The reason why this work of art is kept behind curtains
is because the subject of paintings is in sheer conflict with the teachings of the Church.
There is erotic imagery on the walls depict some controversial and extremely intimating notions. In the age of internet it might not bear the same emotional meaning to the public, but at time it was considered Rafael’s audacity in the field of art.
There have been secrets in this world and there still are some that remain hidden or elude the human eye in plain sight. However, the intellectuals and philosophers have been able to bring them to the attention of the common over the years and the process
is likely to continue.
