Juno is a 2007 comedy-drama film written by Diablo Cody and produced by John Malkovich, Lianne Halfon, Mason Novick and Russell Smith. It was released on September 1st, 2007 in limited areas and on December 5th, 2007 worldwide.
The $6.5 to $7 million budgeted drama centres on Juno, an independent-minded teenager, who faces an unplanned pregnancy and the subsequent events that put pressure of adult life onto her. Other stars includes: Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, J.K. Simmons
and Olivia Thirlby.
The 96 minutes movie grossed a total of $231,411,584, with domestic earnings of $143,496,265. On its limited release on 5th December, the movie bagged a total of $413,869 from seven theatres and opened at number 17th spot. On the other
hand, Juno’s worldwide release pocketed $10,634,576 from 1,019 theatres; it opened at number fifth spot in the Box Office.
Juno also became Fox Searchlight’s first film to surpass $100 million at the Box Office. The company’s president Peter Rice issued the statement, "This is an astonishing feat for us and the film has surpassed all our expectations. We knew this film had crossover
potential and it has resonated with audiences all across the country."
Juno was also the highest-grossing of the five Best Picture nominees for the 80th Academy Awards.
The movie features several songs performed by Kimya Dawson in her solo, Antsy Pants and The Moldy Peaches guises.
The filming took place in and around Vancouver, British Columbia due to a limited budget.
The film was released on DVD and Blu-ray disc on April 15th, 2008. Blu-ray also includes special features, deleted scenes and two additional featurettes.
Mustering the movie further, Juno received many positive reviews from the critics. These reviews also helped promote the movie for its second release.
Tom Long of the Detroit News praised the movie by saying, “Juno is the best movie of the year. It’s the best screenplay of the year, and it features the best actress of the year working with the best acting ensemble of the year.”
Oscar winning Juno is an enthralling tale of a pregnant teenage girl and is a must watch movie for all genre.
