Jennifer Carpenter: I’d love to do more ‘dark’ roles in my career

‘Dexter’ actress Jennifer Carpenter has insisted that she would love to do more ‘dark’ roles in her career. She added that she would also love to do new roles but the negative and dark roles appeal most to her.

Carpenter has played the role of Debra Morgan in crime series ‘Dexter’ for the past six seasons and will play the same role for another two seasons as the show has been extended further by Showtime.

The actress insisted that acting had been her passion since childhood which is why she pursued a career in the field. The American performer added that she is still hungry for meaty roles and always try to accept those roles which
show the perfect skill of an actor.

“I made a very solid commitment at 8 years old that I wanted to be an actor, and I never deviated from that decision. I truly did feel like it was a calling, so at this point in my career, I have to decide if I have something new
to say as an artist and ask why I am still so hungry,” she was quoted as saying in an interview.

Carpenter, who received critical acclaim for her performance in horror flick ‘The Exorcism of Emily Rose’, is delighted with the response Dexter is getting and praised the team for all the hard work over the past few years. She
revealed that it is always good to be praised by fellow compatriots for the performance.

“I think it’s because I just love working so much. It’s hard for me to say no to roles that people automatically associate me with – like darker things, horror things. I need to make sure that I’m taking roles that I feel like
I can communicate through,” he concluded.

Jennifer Carpenter won the Saturn Award for the Best Supporting Actress on Television in 2009 and was nominated for the same award in 2007, 2008 and 2010.
