Swelling popularity of Imran Khan
Wednesday, December 21st, 2011 5:02:31 by Faisal FarooqSwelling popularity of Imran Khan
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf received a significant boost, with growing popularity of Imran Khan, when 30 political heavyweights joined hands with the cricket-turned politician.
However, it is unclear whether Khan’s boost to sweep away the corruption is main reason behind the swelling of his party or the directives of power corridors that are said to be supporting PTI.
The group of politicians that changed its political affiliation includes Ishaq Khan Khakwani, Jahangir Khan Tareen, Owais and Jamal Leghari, the sons of late President Farooq Ahmed Khan Leghari along with several other bigwigs.
Apart from that no single face was new entry into the politics among the newly joined 30 names, it is point of comfort for the PTI‘s supporters. The party’s appeal to the masses, especially to the youngsters, compelled the well-established politicians to
throw away their previous indifferent notions about uncertain future of Khan.
With inclusion of the kingpins, the PTI is not going to suffer more on the political outskirts but came into a position to pose a serious threat to the largest parties including PML-N and PPP.
Those all, who joined hands with captain, claimed themselves clean politicians, and were mulling to form their own political group.
It is vital to mention here that all of them belong to well-established families of Southern Punjab and have worked with the former president, General Pervez Musharraf. The acceptance of these old faced with new clothes within the party’s bends will invite
severe criticism on Imran Khan.
The captain has always been promoting change in the status quo but he is adopting all the status holders in his party.
Being aware of the denigration, Imran Khan has been compelled to adjust his position by saying he failed to find angles in the country.
Conversely, he tries to justify himself saying that he will accept only clean politician, whose formula is only with the PTI.
In one side these heavyweights add power to the party but, at the same time, ruins his messages of change. Additionally, the latest inductions will fortify the perception among many that Imran Khan and PTI is getting support by the powerful establishment.
The elite lot of the Sothern part of the country, which has the creeping ability of measuring which way the wind is blowing, will have clashes with ideology of Imran Khan.
