Crises after crises

When it rain, it pours’, the people should prepare themselves for two diversities of load shedding; first, gas and now, power shortage.  Winter is after all a heavy pull on our natural resources, which is why the former was quite expected.

Electricity shortfall is exclusively summer time facility, however, the government is not missing any chance to make the people blushed. Due to canal de-silting, an estimated 3000 MW of our hydroelectric generation will be unavailable in the winter.

In the first step, the government should have gotten together to start work for overcoming the gas shortage. However, it wasn’t happened. In the first phase, the ministry was a sufferer of coalition politics, with the PML-N’s Khwaja Asif receiving the department,
and quitting in the next moment.

In the next step, the ministry moved a couple of people, once Dr. Asim Hussein, who gained the charge second time. He looks sensible when he speaks how corrective actions, on the gas front, are going to spread out in the coming days.

He clarified that there is not magic wand to resolve the crises within minutes. However, the PPP-led coalition government should have commenced the work long ago. By cutting the officeholders some limp, it is cleared that the crises was to happen since much
before the present setup.

The idea to promote CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) in the transport was commended largely in the country, but it was started without proper planning. It is quite challenging and difficult situation where we are receiving finite gas supply, what we have in
the resources.

However, the media immoderately is condemning the distributed closure of CNG pumps as well as domestic gas load shedding. We have no other solution to handle the situation at the ongoing moment.

Furthermore, the gas shortage is also limiting out gas-run power units, with which the electricity crisis is going worsen day by day. The circular debt between the IPPs and the government is also increasing the intensity of the problems.

The increasing prices of oil in the international market are proving plus points to add the miseries of common men.

By starting new projects, we can resolve both the crises in quite better way. TAPI and IPI are most nearer projects besides starting work on hydel power plants. Last but not the least; we will have to make mechanism to structure the conservation and sustainability
plan.
