Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Shahrukh Khan can finally relax a bit as the High Court has denied the legal suit against the makers of ‘Don 2 – The King is Back’ as a result to which the movies, which
is all set to release tomorrow on December 23, 2011, will not be delayed at all.
Nariman Films and Irani family, who are the original makers of the 1978 film ‘Don’ starring Amitabh Bachchan, filed an appeal against the makers of ‘Don 2’ alleging infringement of copyrights.
Nariman Films stated that they never gave any rights for the making of ‘Don 2’. They also claimed that the producers, directors, including the actor Shahrukh Khan, didn’t produce any rights for the making
of this film.
Nariman Films insisted they only shared the rights for the making of ‘Don 1 – The Chase Begins Again’ in 2005 and they got expired in 2009.
However, ‘Naik Naik and Company’, which is representing the makers of ‘Don 2 – The King is Back’, argued with the judge that their film is being promoted since 2010 and nobody ever pointed them out and
now when there is only one day left in the release of the film, Nariman Hirani wants a delay?
‘Naik Naik and Company’ stressed that now the prints have been distributed and a lot of advertisement has been done. They said if Nariman Films wanted a stay they should have appealed earlier. Meanwhile,
‘Naik Naik and Company’ claimed damages of Rs 200 crore to the tune of ‘Don 2’ because of all this.
After keeping all the facts in front the court refused to stay release of the film. However, the damages done will looked upon a bit later.
‘Don 2 – The King is Back’ is one of the most eagerly awaited films of this year and it is going to be released in 41 countries tomorrow. The film will see the King of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan, and the
Indian actress and former Miss World, Priyanka Chopra, playing lead roles in it.
All left to see if whether if ‘Don 2’ will live up to the expectations or not.
