Islamabad: (December 22), Mr. Sajid Ishaq – a renowned social worker and Chairman Interfaith League Against Poverty (I-LAP) distributed Christmas gifts among 500 children and 100 widows from destitute families. The distribution
was held at Maskeen Colony, G-8, Islamabad and included food packages, warm clothing and toys among other comodities. The distribution of gifts was an attempt to make Christmas a happy occasion for children, families and others who have little or nothing
under the tree on Christmas morning.
I-LAP’s distribution of Christmas gifts is an annual programme which has been initiated to ensure that children and families receive a Christmas present in the festive season.
After distribution of gifts, , Mr. Sajid Ishaq said that reaching out to the destitute on this occasion was a humble attempt to make a practical difference in the lives of local children and young people. He said, “Many families
are really struggling during this current economic climate and that is why this year more than ever, I-LAP has come forward to support the financially deprived people”.
He was of the view that Christmas was supposed to be a time of happiness and hope as the communities were celebrating the birth of their Savior. Amid the sustained unrest in the country, he said, many Christian families in Pakistan
were faceing hunger and poverty, which prevented them from experiencing joy of the season, and thus, I-LAP planned to bring the miracle of Christmas to the lives of the disadvantaged people.
Persuading other people to remember the needy during Christmas festivities, Mr. Sajid Ishaq said, “ Giving is what Christmas is all about”.
Concluding his remarks, Chairman I-LAP prayed that the Lord might bestow this nation with lasting peace, prosperity, unity and interfaith harmony among the communities and a brighter future for the country this Christmas.
Thanking I-LAP’s effort to rekindle the lives of marginalised people, the beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for making their children happy. They said that t he gift giving activity meant a lot to their children and widows;
for them, Christmas has really come quite early.
