Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf Imran Khan has reached Karachi to look over the preparations for the rally to be held on Quaid-e-Azam’s Mausoleum Karachi on December 25. Accompanying him are the stalwarts of the party most
of which are those who have joined him after the massive rally in Lahore, notably, former minister for foreign affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Jehangir Tareen.
A large number of activists flocked to the Karachi airport to welcome their leader. A large number of students from private universities of the city were present at the airport to receive him. They showered him with rose petals,
as they chanted slogans and danced.
At a press conference later, Khan said that the December 25 jalsa would prove a turning point for the political history of the country. “It is a day of political change,” he said, adding that people from different political affiliations and sects would throng
Mazar-e-Quaid because the PTI was the only party that stood above all ethnic and political divides. “The PTI has united and motivated all generations to assemble at the party’s platform for a positive change in the country,” he said.
He also showed a permission letter issued by the provincial administration, saying that even the Quaid-e-Azam Management Board had allowed them to hold the public meeting at a distance of 60 feet from Qauid’s mausoleum.
However, the Sindh Home Department reiterated its stand that the mausoleum of the Quaid-e-Azam did not fall under its jurisdiction, and hence it was not in a position to either allow or disallow a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf rally at the mausoleum on Sunday (December
25).
The Home Department sources said it was suggested to the PTI to opt for a different venue and date for their rally, but the party had not responded to the idea yet.
“The rising popularity of the PTI has upset the government and its coalition partners, who are now keeping a close eye on our party. The party stands for justice, irrespective of a person’s religious, ethnic or linguistic associations,” Khan told journalists.
“The PTI is a national party and people belonging to different ethnic communities have announced their support and become part of the PTI Tsunami”, Khan said.
Khan was confident that the December 25 rally would be bigger than the one held at the Minar-e- Pakistan in Lahore.
He was optimistic that the PTI would be able to break the spell of the city’s most popular party through its policies and insistence on peace. “The people are worried about peace in the city. Every passing day, the crime rate has been increased, and target
killings and other heinous crimes are rampant,” he said.
“The only slogan for the city is peace. We will be able to bring normalcy to the city by engaging the youth into educational programmes,” he added.
