Islamabad, Friday, December 23, 2011: The core committee meeting of Pakistan Peoples’ Party at Aiwan-e-Sadr here, chaired by President Asif Ali Zardari and the Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani stressed all the state institutions
to work in their constitutional ambit.
Sharing details of the meeting, the president’s spokesman Farhatullah Babar said the meeting which lasted for two hours reviewed the overall political situation in the country with special reference to recent developments. The
prime minister gave a comprehensive briefing on the overall situation.
The meeting reiterated its unswerving commitment to the principles of parliamentary sovereignty, constitutionalism and rule of law and said the party and the government would uphold these principles under all circumstances.
The meeting also reiterated that all institutions of the state have to work within the ambit of the Constitution without trespassing into domain of others.
Babar said that the meeting reposed full confidence in the leadership of Co-Chairman President Asif Ali Zardari and Chief Executive Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.
He said that the meeting also discussed arrangements for the proposed rally in Garhi Khuda Baksh on December 27 to mark the 4th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto.
The political analysts are of the view that the recent statement given after the core committee of the PPP is aimed at reiterating its earlier stance over the memogate case which stated that instead of Supreme Court, a parliament’s
committee should probe the matter. However the applicant of the case, Mr. Nawaz Sharif, who also happens to be the leader of the largest opposition party, has clearly stated that he had no confidence on a parliament committee to do justice with the matter.
Moreover, through this meeting, the PPP government also wants to intimidate the military authorities to remain in their constitutional limits and not to attempt for a military coup. This perhaps is a far cry as military, through
ISPR has clearly stated that it had no interest in toppling the democratic government. The statement later on was issued and supported by military chief as well.
