Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows rocked the Box Office as it landed at number one spot on its release on December 16th, 2011. However, the $125 million budget movie received average reviews.
The movie centres on Holmes (played by Robert Downey Jr.) and Dr. Watson (starred by Jude Law) who join forces to outwit and bring their adversary, Professor James Moriarty (starred by Jared Harris). Moriarty – a new criminal mastermind is not only Holmes’
Intellectual equal but his capacity for evil, give him an edge over the renowned detective.
Sherlock Homes 2 is produced by Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin, and it is written by Kieren Mulroney and Michele Mulroney.
The mystery flick received mixed or average reviews from the top critics.
Review aggregator site Metacritic gave it a score of 49 out of 100 based on reviews by 37 critics. However, its user’s gave a rating of 7.5 out of 10 based on 70 ratings.
Rotten Tomatoes reported that 60 percent of critics gave positive ratings, based on reviews by 168 critics. It got an average rating of 6.1 out of 10 from these critics.
Andrea Chase of the Killer Movie Reviews praised the movie by saying, “is as fiendishly clever as it is intricately constructed. It remains true to the original appeal of Holmes and his methods, while going as large as 21st-century CGI can go, as well as
incorporating a bracing modern sensibility.”
Peter Rainer of the Christian Science Monitor got a different opinion. He declared, “What this film really celebrates is crunch-and-thud video-game-style action, not especially well choreographed by director Guy Ritchie.”
Rolling Stone’s top critic, Peter Travers added, “In an act of criminal negligence, Ritchie has wasted Robert Downey Jr. in a sequel that eliminates smarts in favour of relentless head banging.”
Ed Whitfield of The Ooh Tray went on to say, “Made for those with a limited mental faculty.”
IMDB gave it a 7.9 out of 10 based on the ratings from 10,514 users.
Sherlock Holmes is a must watch movie for all the mystery lovers and it is a great way to spend time with your family and friends.
