The Tsunami of Imran Khan

There is no doubt about the fact that Imran Khan was gradually becoming popular in the country since last 15 years but he found a massive breakthrough on October 30th, 2011, when Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf (PTI) was able to gather huge amount of
people for its procession at the Minar e Pakistan, Lahore.
It turned out to be a massive shock for the major political parties of the country as it was always going to be a challenging task for a third major political force to emerge in Pakistan.
Since October 30th, a number of big politicians have started to join PTI, which has surely tilted the balance of political popularity in favour of Imran Khan.
His opponents, Pakistan Muslim League (N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have been criticizing PTI for bringing in so many old faces in the party and they feel that it is a contradiction to the slogan of Imran Khan and a change cannot be made through tried
and tested people.
However, one must keep this thing in mind that some of the big names have resigned from their seat of national assembly and have joined PTI, which is yet to enjoy the fruits of power in Pakistan. The likes of Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Azam Sawati are the
prime examples.
If those people have vested interests, why would they resign from their positions to join a new party, especially when it is not even guaranteed that PTI is going to form a government after the next general elections?
While expressing his views in a press conference, Imran said, “What more do you expect in a revolution; peoples’ representatives sitting in the parliament are resigning and joining PTI.”
Imran believes that if the top leadership of a political party is honest, it would never allow the lower tear of leadership to misuse its powers. So it is the leader who matters the most.
The Chairman PTI also slammed PML (N) and said that it should have resigned from the national and provincial assemblies but they never did so and legitimized the corrupt rule of PPP.
“Change is always led by leaders and we will fulfil this need for change. If Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) decides to resign, there will be no corrupt government in power but PML-N is supporting this rule and waiting for its turn to take advantage
of being in power,” Imran added.
