Reverred game developer Miyamoto steps down from his position at Nintendo
Saturday, December 24th, 2011 4:54:27 by Awais KhanLegendary Miyamoto will leave his position as head developer at Nintendo but will continue at the console giant’s headquarters. However, no longer will he be leading development of Nintendo games at the organization. From now on, Miyamoto will focus on personal
projects in the company.
Shigeru Miyamoto is creator of one of the best titles in gaming history, such as Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda. After being involved with core developing process at Nintendo, he will work on small projects.
"I like to do something for myself. Something really small," he said in an interview.
His company, Nintendo has issued a statement denying the withdrawal. "It is absolutely false. There has been a misunderstanding. He has no intention of leaving his current position. Do not worry."
The "misunderstanding" it seems has come out because the whole interview was carried with an interpreter and his long and carefully selected words have been taken out of context.
"At work I have been saying recently, I’m going to retire, I’m going to retire. I’m not saying I’m going to retire completely from the development of video games. What I mean by "retiring" is to withdraw from my current position of responsibility".
Miyamoto’s statements immediately cost billions of dollars to Nintendo, whose publicly traded shares went 2% down, according to Reuters. As a result, the company issued a statement correcting the statements of Miyamoto.
"What I want is to be at the forefront of developing a game made for myself again," adds Miyamoto, explaining that he would like to work with new generations of developers.
"In other words, I have no intention of working on things that need five years of development." Currently, Miyamoto is the head of Nintendo’s greatest hits, with the recently released Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword and Super Mario 3D Land.
