Sensationalism media

A recent survey revealed that around 91% respondents believed that media in Pakistan was more about sensationalism than reporting facts, to which I partially be of the same mind.
But the question what comes in my mind frequently is that why Pakistani media is melodramatic. In my opinion, the viewers are more respectful to sensational news than factual reporting and journalism. You will get the idea if you visit any news website,
particularly closely observing the sidebar that shows the most viewed, most commented and most watching videos.
In the present scenario, sensational stories will most likely to be about secret memogate, President Asif Ali Zardari, ISI, Imran Khan, Veena Malik, army and judiciary. One will get wonder to know that hardly any news website will include economy related
news in their lists.
Most common reason could be that it takes extra effort on the reader’s part to understand the economy and finance related issues. The opinionated pieces on the politics usually cover without giving any logic about the comment. Mostly it happened because
writer doesn’t bother to make a research while readers too like perky commentaries.
Why we blame only media when a story on a newspaper about the new gas load management plan receives no comment while the news item about Imran Khan or Veena Malik gets over 100 remarks.
Many news readers would have know about the thongs of Mansoor Ijaz, but how many of them will have information about the government’s strategy to import 1.2 million tons of urea for next season.
It could be enough reason to invite public outrage in any country if the news appeared that the state will import 1.2 million tons urea because if could supply the promised amount of gas to Engro’s newly established plans.
Such things are reported in newspapers every day but perhaps people are too busy consuming unimportant and sensational stories. Possibly, journalist fraternity is going its jobs just fine, but readers are simply not fascinated in real information.
In such cases, news consumers, not journalists, are to be blamed for sensationalism that’s cringing into media.
