Shahrukh Khan’s Don 2 falls short of Salman Khan’s Bodyguard on its first day

Shahrukh Khan’s Don 2 – The King is Back, which has been directed by Farhan Akhtar, was one of the most eagerly awaited films of this year but still it failed to outrun Salman Khan’s ‘Bodyguard’ in his
first-day box office dash.

The much-anticipated film Don 2 was released in 41 countries yesterday and as per the trends the movie has collected an approximate amount of Rs 15 crore on its first day whereas Salman Khan’s Bodyguard,
which was released in the cinemas worldwide on August 31, 2011, grossed an amount of Rs 21.5 crore on its first day.

The cinema officials however think the high-time for Don 2 is yet to come. They are expecting the figures to go up by this Sunday night.

“The footfall for Don 2 has been in the range of 60 to 70 per cent which should touch 95 per cent on Saturday and Sunday,” said a Fame Cinemas official.

“We have been getting very good reports about the film and audience curiosity is at an all-time high. The first weekend should be huge,” said Subhasis Ganguli, the regional director of Inox. Nahta said:
“In terms of trade, I expect Don 2 to make about Rs 15 crore on the first day. That is a fair-to-good report card,” but certainly not in the league of a Bodyguard, or even Shah Rukh’s last release Ra.One.

Nevertheless, King Khan’s action thriller film has beaten the record of Bodyguard when it comes to the volume of theatrical release in India and worldwide because Bodyguard was released in 27, 00 screens
in India and around 500 prints overseas whilst Don 2 has been released with 3, 000 movie prints in the domestic market and 550 3D prints overseas.

Don 2 features Shahrukh Khan alongside Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles. It is a sequel to his 2006 release ‘Don – The Chase Begins Again’ which was a Blockbuster at the Box Office and keeping these facts
in front Don 2 is expected to break all the collection records.

All left to see is whether if it really happens or not.
