Change should come through ballet and not by force – Zardari

President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari, in his message for the special occasion of Quaid e Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s birthday, has urged the nation to be united for democracy and feels that the change must come through ballet and not by force.
Zardari is also the Co-Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and some of the critics believe that the present government is one of the worst ones of the history of Pakistan. There have been a number of corruption charges on this government but it is still
intact because all the major political parties of the country do not want any third force to take advantage of the situation.
The PPP government is facing a huge crisis in shape of the memo-gate scandal and there is a school of thought in the country that Pakistan may soon witness a change of government because of this controversy.
However, Zardari has used this occasion for political point scoring and feels that the founding father of Pakistan, Mohammad Ali Jinnah wanted democracy in the country and if any change is necessary, it must come through the will of the people and its best
expression is ballet.
The President said, "The Quaid (Jinnah) believed that any change must be brought about by ballot and rejected change by bullet. Let us pledge that we will not allow any change through force and intimidation and respect the power of ballot as the instrument
of change."
Zardari futher added that the government must work for the betterment of the masses and 25th of December reminds every year that the politicians of the country must take Jinnah as their role model.
“We need to create conditions whereby the welfare of the people is the dominant concern of the state. Let us pledge on this day to reclaim Quaid-e-Azam’s Pakistan and unleash the creative powers of the people through freedom, justice, the rule of law and
an end to terrorism and violence", Zardari added.
There seems to be a lot of contradictions in Zardari’s statement as he calls for democracy and he himself was selected as the Co-Chairman of PPP through a will of Benazir Bhutto, which is by no means in accordance to the spirit of democracy.
