And there was tsunami in Karachi, a PTI tsunami

Pakistan Tehriq-E-Insaf leader, Imran Khan, made an even larger statement in Karachi than he did in Lahore. Yet should Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari be worried?

When Imran Khan called out for change in Pakistan, many politicians may very well have laughed. After all, they had been in the game for ages, what could a former cricketer with a playboy lifestyle and elitist background possibly do to threaten them?

After the PTI jalsa in Lahore, that particular smile may very well have narrowed on the likes of Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari’s faces, but after yesterday’s historic gathering near the Mizar-E-Quaid in Karachi, they would surely have resulted in jaws
touching the floor.

Nervous looks may have been passed around amongst all the major politicians in the country. It should be mentioned here that the previous sentence could have easily done without the ‘may’, but again there is no harm in giving the concerned people the benefit
of the doubt.

The turnout was nothing special, if we are honest, after all, the crowd only stretched into the distance and beyond. Flags were being waved, the crowd responded to almost every speaker who took the stage and shared their message of ‘aman’ or unity.

What was even more impressive was how; similar to the jalsa in Lahore, the demographic of the supporters was unlike that of any jalsa that had taken place before. The young, the old, the students, the employed, the unemployed, Sindhis, Pathans and everyone
under the sun turned out on what was surely a historic occasion.

It just goes to show how the people have taken to Imran Khan and there is a genuine feeling of trust in the leader, not something many in this country can boast and surely none can compare to that of the nation’s World Cup winning captain.

It may have gone unnoticed but there were other jalsas taking place across the country at the same time as well, yet when you have Abrar-ul-Haq on stage, why would anyone turn anywhere else?
