Android Tablets are gaining momentum in the race against Apple’s iPad 2 – Part 1
Monday, December 26th, 2011 5:22:21 by Usman KhalidThe iPad is the market leader… not anymore. New devices are pouring into market with a host of new specifications that can shift the current market trend from iPad 2 to several other competitors. Currently trending are two operating systems, Apple’s iOS
and Google’s Android. However, the tablets in the market are more than two. There is Amazon.com’s Kindle Fire, Barnes and Noble’s Nook Color, Asus Transformer Prime, HTC Flyer, RIM’s Blackberry Playbook and Motorola’s Xyboard or Xoom 2.
However, the major contenders in the market are iPad 2, Kindle Fire, Transformer Prime and Xoom 2. The most powerful is still the iPad in terms of battery life but the new Transformer Prime is even more powerful with quad-core processor.
The new-in-line processor in the Transformer Prime makes it a powerful than the iPad in terms of performance. The tablet has the best combination of specifications that can run the hardcore games in the market without flexing a muscle. The 1GB RAM might
be normal for the current market but the quad-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz does the justification.
Moreover, the screen result is one of the best in the marketplace. The 10-inch screen (diagonal) is at par with iPad and the colour palette isn’t even bad. With 1.3 pounds of weight, the slate locks horns with iPad on handling and its even thinner than the
dramatically thin iPad 2.
However, when it comes to battery life, the Prime is left behind the iPad with three hours. The Transformer has a 7-hour battery life whereas, the iPad 2 sports 10-hour life to the power. However, here is when things get nippy. The Transformer Prime comes
with an optional $150 keyboard that has a USB port and SD card slot in addition to an extra battery that has three-hour life of its own.
