China reiterates it support for Pakistan’s independence and sovereignty

China has reiterated its firm support for Pakistan’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and urged the international community to recognize the significant contributions made by the country in world’s war against terror.

The reassurance came during the three-day visit of Representative of Chinese President Hu Jintao. On his visit to Pakistan, Hu Jintao was accompanied by State Councilor of the State Council of China Dai Bingguo.

China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian, in his briefing on the visit of Dai Bingguo to Pakistan on Monday, told the media reporters that though the visit was short but it proved fruitful.

Liu Jian said that his country supports Pakistan’s efforts in maintaining its national stability and unity. He further added that they have always supported the Pakistan government in exploiting its geographical advantage to create a sound external environment,
develop its economy, and improve the livelihood of its people.

“Our two sides have signed 6 agreements including the Supplementary Agreement on Extension of Five Year Development Programme on Trade and Economic Cooperation, and a 10-billion-yuan (1.58 billion US dollars) currency swap agreement between People’s Bank
of China and the State Bank of Pakistan.”

Pak-China friendship is as old as china itself as Pakistan became the first Muslim country to initiate diplomatic ties with the People’s Republic of China soon after their independence in 1951. To further strengthen its ties with China, Pakistan had declared
2011 as “Year of China-Pakistan Friendship”.

Mr. Jian said that the recent visit of Hu JIntao and Dai Bingguo was aimed at marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of China-Pakistan diplomatic relations and the “Year of China-Pakistan Friendship”. During the visit, the Chinese diplomats also discussed
with Pakistani leaders how to carry forward the traditional friendship, deepen cooperation and shape a better future for bilateral ties.

“This visit is a tour of friendship, and a tour of cooperation. It’s our firm belief that this visit will further consolidate and strengthen the strategic partnership of cooperation existing between China and Pakistan.”

During the visit, Dai Bingguo also held comprehensive discussions with Pakistan’s civilian and military leaders and reached broad consensus on further promoting the Pak-China strategic cooperative partnership.

Dai also urged the international community to recognize Pakistan’s contribution in international war against terrorism and continue to render strong support for the terrorism stricken country.
