Discovering the Pakistani Constitution

The constitution throughout the world is considered to be the supreme law of the land, which is beneficial for every single citizen in society, the only condition being that if they know about it or not.

Most people in basically any country around the world have not ever taken a proper look the significant document which could play a vital role in the lives of normal people based on the protection and rights provided to them.

The reason for hiring lawyers is exactly that; due to our lack of knowledge, we need a specialist in the field who could help us solve our problems or even avoid them altogether, but how many of us really know how the constitution came into being and why?

A Constitution is Supreme

Everything in a democratic country like ours is based on the supremacy of the constitution and its enforcement to the point where our borders come to an end. Without it, we are just a group of animals without any civilised procedure of running and maintaining
the state.

The constitution is made by the publically elected government, which through the parliament consisting of the national assembly and senate, create well planned out laws and have them enforced through its machinery.

The courts throughout the country enforce the laws in the constitution by keeping a check and balance of the working of the public and private institutions within the boundaries of the law and whether or not the basic rights and privileges given to the people
are indeed present or not.

Unfortunately in Pakistan, the constitution is considered to be just like a piece of paper which can be ripped within a matter of seconds, something literally said by General Zia-ul-Haq, who was a dictator of our nation, coming into power by having a democratically
elected Prime Minister hanged through extra-constitutional means, by that we mean through illegal methods.

Basically, martial laws and army takeovers have destroyed this nation in all aspects possible along with the constitutions respect being degraded by the people who do so altogether.

Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto – The Maestro of the Constitution

After a number of constitutions introduced in Pakistan through elected governments failed after military takeovers, like that of 1956, drafted by Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan and shortly after abrogated by general Ayub Khan after overthrowing Iskander
Mirza, who was the first dictator this country saw and also an army man.

It was Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, the most popular leader this country ever saw, who drafted the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan of 1973, and faced the music for such a deed after being illegally hanged by Zia-ul-Haq, another traitor of
the country.

Today, the constitution of 1973, which by far is the most well planned out one this country has seen, has been restored in its original form by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) as soon as they took charge in 2008 following a nine-year military rule.

In the next part, we will go further in depth about the constitution and what it really consists of.

To be continued in Part 2….
