Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s rally at Karachi yesterday witnessed a crowd which was rumoured to be in the tens of thousands. Figures have been estimated from 200,000 to a whopping 450,000, but no matter what the number is, it is certain that Imran Khan has
finally succeeded in gaining the appeal of the masses.
In a country which is torn in economic crisis, claims of blatant corruption and terrorist attacks, former Pakistan cricket captain, Imran Khan Niazi, has been able to carve out an image of a politician truly who truly has the nation’s best interests at heart.
Yesterday in front of the Quaid’s mausoleum, Khan, addressed the huge gathering and vowed to return the country back to its glory, with rigorous checks and accountability measures especially on corruption.
However the road has never been so easy for the 59-year-old, as he himself admitted that his party once fell to such a low that it only had a 6 active members remaining. But through vigilance and a desire to deny the Americans a right to bully Pakistan,
he has slowly but surely built up a fan base, who are sure to vote for him in the upcoming elections.
From Lahore to Islamabad, Imran Khan has placed the plans of opposition parties and current government in jeopardy. Opposition parties such as the PML-N are already admitting that the PTI chairman could soon overtake them in the popularity contest, while
the PPP are now taking Khan as a serious contender for the first time.
Javed Hashmi and Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who are both seasoned politicians, abandoned their own parties in order to join PTI and are now repeating what the general public also claims, “Imran Khan is the last hope of Pakistan.”
The people of Pakistan have never before witnessed the current situation in which the Nation finds itself in but they have placed their faith in the man who led them to World Cup glory in 1992 against all the odds. And who’s to say he can’t do the same in
Politics when the time arises.
