According the head of Germany’s Security Research Labs, Karsten Nohl, any mobile phone which is using the GSM technology is exposed to the newest scam in the world of wireless technology. According to the reports revealed, through this scam hacker can acquire
access remotely to your mobile device without out authorisation permit from owner’s end.
Also, according to the speculations, through this scam, the hacker can control the mobile to the point of making phone calls and sending out messages once the access has been gained with even slightest knowledge of the owner himself.
Previously, this activity was reported to be restricted to a specific array of smartphones. Now, it has widened its scope by gaining access to any phone using the GSM technology. This means that now 80% of the mobile phones in usage are vulnerable to this
kind of hacking.
It was confirmed by Nohl, who said, “We can do it to hundreds of thousands of phones in a short timeframe.”
Through this latest development, corporate organisations landlines are the easy targets, which are contacted through the bogus premium-service phone lines that hackers set up across Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia.
Hackers make calls to the numbers from hacked business phone systems or mobile phones, then collect their cash and move on before the activity is identified.
The phone owners cannot identify the problem until their bills are received. However, until that time it will be too late to make amendments.
