Karachi: (Tuesday, December 27, 2011) Vice Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf, Shah Mehmood Qureshi has claimed that many of the Pakistan Peoples Party Stalwarts were to join PTI soon and this will definitely be a big blow to the
ruling lot.
He was addressing a press conference at the residence of Dr Arif Alvi, General Secretary PTI, on Monday. He said that if Benazir Bhutto was alive today, the PPP would not have been captured by the Zardari league, adding most of
the party stalwarts have been disappointed with the policies of President Zardari and they would soon come into the PTI’s fold.
A dent has already crept into the PPP ranks and the sudden resignation of Information Secretary Firdous Ashiq Awan, though withdrawn, amply showed that the party loyalists had been fed up with Zardari’s policies, he added.
Qureshi said that a large number of people have approached the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to become part of the party, adding the PTI has formed a 10-member scrutiny committee that would review the membership drive.
During its December 25 rally, the PTI had announced that those who wanted to join the party may send their names and addresses at 80022. Following this, many people present there immediately tried to send their details but owing
to activation of jammers around the rally venue, the messages could not be sent, he added.
Qureshi said that the scrutiny committee would meet twice a month and only those who met the criteria would be inducted into the PTI. Criticising President Zardari for “hijacking” the PPP and ignoring the old party stalwarts, he
said that many had already defected the party and the time was not far when he (Zardari) would be standing isolated in the party.
The effect of Imran’s rally in Karachi is rather visible as apex leadership of PML-N has decided to visit all of its potential dissidents and to offer an apology for a sustained negligence on part of the leadership. There are no
two opinions about the fact that Javed Hashmi’s departure to PTI has not only dented the N league beyond repair, but has also significantly strengthened PTI’s position in throughout the country.
