The Pakistan Premier League witnesses one of the most anticipated matches in the fixture list. Table leaders, KRL, take on WAPDA at the Municipal Stadium in Rawalpindi, in what promises to be a true clash of the titans.
In recent memory, WAPDA, have been dominating the football scene in Pakistan. Securing the title since the revamping of the National system, they were also crowned champions in the 2007/2008 season, in which they achieved critical acclaim for going the whole
campaign undefeated.
However this term, Tariq Lutfi’s KRL have been resilient and currently lie on top of the standings with such a huge lead that the title will inevitably be lifted by skipper, Muhammad Essa.
Essa, Muhammad Rasool, Kaleemullah, Muhammad Qasim, all have been primarily responsible for leading the title charge and their efforts are likely to be rewarded with silverware when the league concludes.
While their position will not be on the line when they take on arch-rivals, WAPDA, bragging rights will be and both sides will be going for the win.
Although the Rawalpindi outfit are currently flying high, they will face a tough task against the Watermen, who are not without their share of talented stars.
Arif Mehmood, who is amongst the best strikers in the country, will be hoping to put the woeful season behind him and start getting on the score sheet with more regularity and also increase his chances of making a return to the National team.
However the likes of Samar Ishaq, who were Pakistan’s leading lights at the SAFF Cup, will be rearing to go and prove that their ages matter only on paper.
Muhammad Essa, will perhaps be the most keenest to show off his silky passing abilities and that rocket left-foot of his, as Zavisa Milosavljevic will be scouting talents from the stands.
The presence of the Pakistan National team coach and the crunch game atmosphere will surely pressurize the players, but those who are able to rise up to the occasions will gain one over their rivals and could be presented with an opportunity to represent
their Nation in the upcoming International fixtures.
