Karachi: (Wednesday, December 28, 2011) the recently released chairman of Mohajir Qaumi Movement Haqiqi, Afaq Ahmed has ruled out the chances of joining Imran Khan’s Tehreek-e-Insaaf or making an alliance with it to counter the
influence of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
“Of course I have praised the PTI and Imran Khan’s good intentions, like the party’s pledge to bring the feudal lords under the tax net, but that doesn’t mean that I’m going to join the PTI. There are many things about the PTI
I don’t agree with,” he said while talking to the news reports.
Ahmed, who was recently released from prison, said incarceration had afforded him a lot of time for introspection, and after looking back he reached the conclusion that his decision of parting ways with Altaf Hussain was 100 percent correct.
“The Mohajir Qaumi Movement is the only obstacle and threat to Altaf Hussain, and this is evident from the fact that his only condition of joining the Musharraf government was a crackdown on us and putting me behind bars,” he said.
The chief of the MQM-Haqiqi accused the Pakistan People’s Party government of using his imprisonment as a bargaining chip with the Muttahida to make their allies toe the line. “It is yet another proof that Muttahida and Altaf consider us their sole political
rival in the city, and they accepted all the conditions to keep me behind bars and my party workers away from their homes,” he added.
Ahmed termed his erstwhile ally Amir Khan’s joining the Muttahida as a blessing from Almighty Allah. “You see, the Muttahida blamed the rivalry between me and Amir Khan’s group for the killing of my workers and leaders, but with Amir’s joining the Muttahida,
we emerged as the one and only Mohajir Qaumi Movement, and nobody can now blame us for having a rift within the Mohajir Qaumi Movement’s rank and file.”
The MQM-Haqiqi chief said that except for Amir Khan, who was just a party colleague and not a friend, his doors were open for all those workers who had left the party during his eight-year-long incarceration.
“I’m even ready to welcome all those Muttahida workers and leaders who are fed up with Altaf Hussain’s atrocities against the Mohajirs,” he said.
Replying to a question about his alleged hand in the killing of activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and creating ‘no-go’ areas where Muttahida activists could not enter, he said he never used such violence tactics nor did he ever create “no-go” areas
for political opponents.
