Islamabad: (Tuesday, December 27, 2011) Prime Minister Syed yusuf Raza Gilani, while submitting his second explanatory reply regarding Babar Awan’s conference that criticized the Judiciary, said that Awan’s talks did not mean showing
disrespect for the apex court.
Former minister of law Dr Babar Awan had talked to media at the Press Information Department (PID) immediately after Supreme Court’s Dec 1st hearing of the memogate case giving full vent to his party’s reservations.
During that press briefing, Dr Awan spoke loud enough to draw Supreme Court’s annoyance, which tasked Prime Minister with an explanation, which he duly sent to the honourable court, but was not enough of appease the highest judicial office of Pakistan.
Subsequently, the Supreme Court demanded a categorical reply from Prime Minister, to which Attorney General of Pakistan Moulvi Anwar submitted a 5-point explanatory note on Prime Minister’s behalf.
Ever since this memogate issue has been taken up by the Supreme Court, the PPP government has been expressing its discomfort one way or the other.
At times it decides to take onto army while at other times it goes for accusing judiciary for probing into an issue which, to the government, stands on no grounds.
Given all these stances by the ruling lot, the foundational questions still stands there, that is, if both President Zardari and Husein Haqqani’s hands are clean and they have not any such controversial memo which could let the
Pakistan army’s morale down, why are they casting hue and cry against court’s probe into the matter.
Guessing army and opposition party’s determination in exacting reality regarding the issue and their will to punish the culprits, it seems if found guilty, the PPP led government will have to face some server setbacks.
Nevertheless, there are news that the government is trying to invoke army and other institutions like judiciary’s wrath so as its rule is toppled and they, all over again, would stand a chance to stand before the nation as political
martyred. However, none of the army, opposition or judiciary seems allowing them to do so unless clear picture regarding memogate case prevails.
