Lahore: (Wednesday, December 28, 2011) The Central Shoora of Jamaat-e-Islami said that the memo scandal was a plot not only against Pakistan Army, but also treason against the country, the nation and the national security.
It called upon the Supreme Court to conduct a thorough and independent probe into the whole issue on top priority so that the elements behind it were exposed and handed down exemplary punishment. A press release here on Tuesday
said a resolution had been adopted by the JI central advisory body in its meeting held at Mansoorah, which called upon religious and political parties in the country to join hands for restoring the country’s independence and sovereignty and for ensuring real
peace and law and order and to improve the economic conditions of the country for the benefit of the common man. Ameer JI Syed Munawwar Hasan chaired the moot.
The Shoora also questioned the wisdom of Prime Minister Gilani’s remarks in the National Assembly with reference to the Abbotabad incident. It said the prime minister’s remarks that “Those questioning us about the memo should explain who had provided visa to
Osama bin Laden” were a violation of his oath as the prime minister and an attempt to be an approver against the country’s institutions.
It felt that the continuous confrontation and threats of the PPP and its allies with the judiciary and the armed forces would lead to a clash as the PPP was once again trying to become a political martyr. It said the situation called for free elections under
an autonomous Election Commission to enable the masses to elect a new government.
The JI Shoora however reiterated that any extra constitutional measure would not be acceptable as the constitution provided the solution to any situation. Terming the present government as the most failed regime in the country’s history, the resolution said
that the government, which came into power after securing exoneration of its past financial and political crimes through the NRO, had blindly followed Pervez Musharraf’s foreign and internal policies.
The country’s economy was totally ruined in the US so called war on terror in which the independence and sovereignty of the country was put at stake.
The government’s attitude with regard to India too was contrary to national interests and the official move to declare India as a Most Favoured Nation was tantamount to stabbing the Kashmiris in the back. It said that relations with India could not improve
without resolving the Kashmir and river water issues.
The Shoora also expressed deep concern over deteriorating law and order in the country and rising number of murders and dacoities. It noted that the Supreme Court, which had taken a suo motu notice of target killings and extortion in Karachi, had entrusted
the responsibility of restoring peace to the administration which hadbeen a failure.
